The Triassic Period began 245 million years ago and continued for 35 million years. The Earth's landmass were joined in a single continent called Pangea.Many new forms of life including primitive dinosaurs and mammals appeared. Reptiles and dinosaurs dominated began a great radiation which was to continue throughout the Mesozoic Era. They also carved out niches in the air and sea. There were flying reptiles, the pterasaurs, and marine reptiles including ichthyosaurus and pleisosaurus. Fish still dominated the sea, and insects still dominated the air. The first tortoises and turtles appeared. |
